From growing our rental business...
In 2009, Bjinse, Arjen, and Johan developed bespoke software for Budgetcam, a Dutch camera rental business Bjinse had founded several years earlier. It was successful in growing revenue and improving the efficiency, allowing it to become the market leader in the Netherlands with 8 stores in 7 major cities with over 100 team members.
The trio thought that this software would be helpful for other rental businesses and decided to create a commercially available version. The goal was to create an open and flexible rental software that is suitable for all types of rental business. Booqable was launched in 2014 and now helps thousands of rental businesses to streamline their operations and increase revenue.

Inspired by the best software creators
Our technical founder, Johan, was inspired by David Heinemeier Hansson, the creator of Ruby on Rails, and Jason Fried, who co-founded 37 Signals alongside him. He saw how with Ruby on Rails they were able to ship high quality products quickly. This was proven by the rapid growth and success of Basecamp and Shopify among hundreds of other companies.
By adopting this technical approach, Booqable has been able to iterate quickly and bring value to its customers. In addition, Booqable has also been inspired by the way of work and the company culture of 37 Signals, which has a flat organization structure, little management, and personal ownership of work. This has enabled us to build a team of talented individuals who are passionate about helping rental businesses to grow.
